Solar Solutions for Sindh

Improve water accessibility and sustainability in Sindh by installing solar-powered submersible pumps that provide clean water for agricultural and drinking purposes. These pumps, benefiting 300 to 400 people each, will reduce water collection efforts, enhance hygiene practices, reduce waterborne diseases, and promote community involvement in maintenance for long-term functionality. The use of solar energy will ensure an ecologically beneficial and cost-effective water management solution.

Solar-powered submersible pumps in Sindh have impacted water availability by pumping water from boreholes and wells for agricultural and drinking purposes. Using the photovoltaic effect, these pumps convert ultraviolet radiation into energy, resulting in a dependable and ecologically beneficial grid-connected solar power plant.

The solar submersible pumps installed by SDO are designed to operate efficiently under varying solar conditions. They typically consist of a submersible pump unit installed underground, connected to solar panels on the surface. These pumps can reach depths ranging from 100 to 250 meters, depending on groundwater levels and specific site requirements. The flow rate of solar submersible pumps can vary, but they generally provide sufficient water for community use, with typical rates ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 liters per hour, depending on the pump’s capacity.

These underwater pumps conserve water and run smoothly without the need for inverters or batteries because of their design. Sindh is heading towards a future where sustainable water management is a reality, helping both agriculture and residents, as solar energy grows through grid-connected solar power plants.

Each solar submersible pump installed by SDO can benefit approximately 300 to 400 people hassle-free within its operational radius. These pumps significantly improve water accessibility and reliability for communities, reducing the time and effort spent on water collection. Access to clean water from solar submersible pumps promotes better hygiene practices, reduces waterborne diseases, and enhances overall health outcomes among residents.

SDO promotes community engagement in the maintenance and management of solar submersible pumps. Local residents are trained in basic troubleshooting and maintenance tasks to ensure the pumps’ long-term functionality. Solar-powered systems are inherently sustainable, requiring minimal operational costs once installed. Regular monitoring by SDO staff ensures that any technical issues are promptly addressed, maintaining uninterrupted water supply for communities.
